The Bush Push requires real
team effort. Teams are made up of four people. One member of the team
needs to have a relevant Chainsaw licence to operate a chainsaw.
Each team member has a different task.
Team member 1: Sits in drivers seat of vehicle
Team member 2: Chainsaw operator*
Team member 3: Wood splitter
Team member 4: Wood loader*
team member must hold an authorised chainsaw licence and be able to
produce it on the day..
The chainsaw operator is required to "gear
up" with his chaps (safety trousers) and may adjust the helmet prior to
commencing the event to ensure they are firmly fastened and fitting
correctly.
The team must commence at the starting line behind the vehicle. On the
starters instructions, the team members commence pushing
the vehicle.
The three team members must push the vehicle 30 metres to the marked
area. Team member 2 fits the helmet, earmuffs and visor and picks up and starts
the chainsaw, cut two
wheels of wood off. Timber must
be approx 18 inches (as marked). Once wood is completely free, operator
is to shut off the chainsaw, place it on the ground and take off safety
gear.
Once the chainsaw is off and team member 2 is clear, team member 3 is to
split each round of wood into at least 5 pieces. All other team
members are to remain clear of team member three when splitting is
occurring. On team member 3
completing their splitting, team member 4 is to load wood into
the back of the vehicle.
Once wood is in the back of the vehicle, team members 2,3 and 4 are to
assemble at the front of the vehicle– with team member 1 in the drivers
seat and team members 2, 3 & 4 are to push the vehicle to the finishing
line (same location as starting position).
Best time wins!!! Prizes have been donated by generous sponsors of the
Festival. Due to overwhelming
support and requests, separate men and women's events were held for the
first time in 2007 and again in 2008. Due to the success of these events, the
2010 event will
again hold the separate male and female events!
